AI SUX (but why do i use it?)
AI sucks, its caused a lot of bad things and stuff uhhhh, it sucks. So WHY DO I USE IT??? I dont knoe.
Last time i used AI it was because i didnt know something in CSS and i couldn’t figure it out with web-search
Maybe i use AI as a easier search, but why would that be? AI is easier and search is harder and that “creates“ (its not a real physical force, its a mental one) a force pushing me towards using ai. So why does this force win? Well the force against is that: ai is bad, so why?
The reason* AI is bad is that: it is bad for learning —but is it? So if you vibe code your whole website you wont learn any HTML|CSS|JavaScript but there are other ways to use ai.
Search Engines can have similar issues to this, if you are just taking code snippets from StackOverflow(I do not endorse —nor anti-endorse StackOverflow) and changing the numbers it tells you to change —are you even learning? Well yes a bit (we will get back to this *bit* later), maybe it is best to only use Mozilla Web Docs(I mostly endorse Mozilla Web Docs in its current state, there are **AI** ads on it though) and use its search to find things.
What if, instead of just using searching for stuff then copying from StackOverflow —you searched the elements in the snippet on Mozilla Web Docs and learnt about them? Users on StackOverflow are known to be knowledgeable in what they are informing about (we will get back to this one later). So the pages on Mozilla Web Docs to learn about it will be on the best method of doing that. So this technique is good for learning.
Lets go from search engines and Stackoverflow to AI! if we ask AI about something using the AI’s wisdom(Asterisk). Then look up related Mozila Web Docs pages —That wouldn’t be much different from using StackOverflow. So AI can be used to learn. It also isnt much of a stretch to ask ai for the Mozila Web Docs links.
But there is a big, dark, hole with very little barrier between —This hole is Vibe Coding. It is very easy not to open the Mozila Web Docs links and — just paste in AI generated code to get the Dopamine hit of getting another element on your site the way you want.
On that Dopamine hit: if you are trying more to learn rather than build a website you will be motivated by the learning more than the website building. This would make it less likely for you to vibe code. Though if you are just trying to build a website you arent trying to learn does that matter? —YES, wanting to code a website is a great opopportunity to learn and AI may prevent that.
We made the assumption that AI knew the best ways of doing things, but does it? I do not know much about this, though on the plane of how much you want to learn and how much vibe you are coding (I will be calling this the AI learning plane) its worse in some areas, I am not really knowledgeable on this so here are some non-endorsed sources: Wikipedia CEL
